Eyes Wide Open

Eyes Wide Open, except, not really.

Lost in childhood games, and fun realities.

I never paid attention to the truth behind the smiling curtain.

The truth of not being able to live freely.

Realities weaved as a child sliced at the age of 9,

when I learned mama y papa would never exist,

not where there were ‘amber waves of grain’

Or ‘purple mountain majesties’.

Thank you, man made line.

Two lives in chains for my life of liberty.

At the age of nine, my Eyes were Wide Open,

To the reality of the Eleven Million in the US.

This poem is about:
Me
My family
My community
My country
