Faceted

Location

People are like diamonds.

Unique,

Beautiful,

Interesting,

With countless facets.

We are all different people in different situations.

With our family,

With our friends,

With our teachers and bosses,

With our past and present partners,

And each of these faces is just as real as any other.

People often say there is one true self,

And in a way this is true.

But identity is not a multiple-choice question.

We cannot simply check off boxes,

Put ourselves into categories,

Avoiding contradiction,

Conflict,

Hypocrisy.

We are a combination of every version of ourselves.

I am a reverent agnostic,

A shy actress,

A brave coward,

A passionate moderate,

A lover and a fighter.

Without a filter,

A social context,

I am not one thing,

I am many.

I am complex,

I am incongruous,

And I am whole.
