Fairytales the sequel

As a child,

fairytales were one sided.

I never had to think,

they were always just provided.

Now I start to wonder through the meaning of it all,

if  the tall tales told to me were the way the went at all.

The prince saves the princess,

we all know how it goes.

A damsel in distress,

can't seem to make it on her own.

But what if she was the one who had to save the prince,

a stereyotype sure to twist,

that would make a better story for that little girl in me.

What if Maleficent had never casted a spell,

but was bullied by the town.

Being the only one not invited,

I would be depressed without a doubt.

What if thumbalina was never kid napped,

just embarrassed when she got lost.

Blammed it on a frog, a mole, and a mouse,

to save herself from criticism that was sure to come out.

One more story that doesn't check out,

still seems to confuse,

what if Ariel was the one not innocent as Disney makes her,

well read the true story,

and you will know how she meet her maker.

Fairytales are made to have a happy vibe,

your satisfied with it because you don't know what they hide,

stories teach a lesson, to kids of the future,

but what if they don't hold the truth, the thing that should be nutured.

This was for the Once upon a time scholarship slam, on my views on how fairytales may not be what they seem. When people read the true stories and not just watch the diner ones, you will know what this poem means at the end.
