Fake
I say my name. I feel the way it sounds, the movements, the emotions it invokes.
It does not feel real, does not feel like me.
This name, the one others call me by, the one I was given, is the one I wish to give up.
If I could go by the secret name inside my head, tell them the truth,
Step out of the closet and into the light, I would.
But it's not safe. So I let myself say the false name, the only one they know me by,
Waiting for the day I no longer have to be fake.
Until the day I am no longer fake.
In the meanwhile, I'll try to distract myself from its awful taste.
