To Family

Someone asked me who I was a year ago

I said a happy, nice girl.

Someone asked me who I am today

I said a depressed, distant girl.

Someone asked me why that is

I said it was because my family broke.

I had an aunt, who was practically my mom

I had two cousins, who were practically my siblings.

There was a soccer rivalry between us

And one day their team loss.

My mom and siblings put on an attitude

And now it’s been a year since we’ve talked.

Family has always been praised in my life

As the number one thing to put before anything else.

If a soccer game teared my family apart

Then how am I supposed to think anything can actually last.

For that reason I trust less

I love less, I feel less.

For that reason, I am not the same person

And I never will be.
