A Father

Your father taught you how to live

Without a hope, and how to give

A kid he didn't care about

A life of shame and fear and doubt;

He taught you how to miss a guy

You never knew, and wonder why

He couldn't find a way to say

You weren't enough for him to stay;

He taught you how to never call,

And how to hurt, but most of all-

Your father's lessons showed to me

The dad you don't want to be.
