finally me

i thrash my way to the top,

as i get closer and closer it gets harder and harder.

i can’t breathe, my lungs ache

for a breath of normalcy.

i have finally made it.

it took fourteen years to surface,

and two more to become proud and unapologetic.

it will take many more years,

because i am still learning,

but now i know how to swim.
