Firsts

First breath

First word

A baby's firsts

Sights to behold

Seconds and thirds and each instance beyond

Lead to new firsts as time goes on

First day of school

First new friend

First learning to read

First school day's end

Through firsts we learn

In seconds we hope

That successes repeat

And failures don't

We remember our firsts

More often than not

They're times when things change

Often a lot

Sometimes we wish life would stay the same

But it will change

It must

For change helps us grow

Like the flowers in the fields

Without changing and growing we would never know

Who we should be and what we could do

Without change we would never bloom

So we treasure our firsts

And welcome the change

So that we might live our very best each day
