A Flawed Character Trait

Bravery, a concept of strange humanity
Is it real, does it even pertain to me?

Myth, legend, flaw of the human brain
Something some feel is the need to gain.

Impressions for one, can show who you are
Dirty, sad things, which can leave a great scar.

Confidence you see, an effect of this thing
Which we call bravery, real sadness it may bring.

Bravery like a mask, hides your true being
Capturing who you once were, no signs of its freeing.

So before you describe a person as brave
Think, decide, and know the effect it may have.

This poem expresses the very line I've heard so often: the bravest people are the ones who have been hurt so much. I've been able to understand it but never put it into words, and I think you have done just that perfectly, with your insight and your ability to point out the truths that you see. Thank you for sharing this piece.
