Flood of 2016

The water invaded my home at dawn,

The structure it once was became destroyed,

Nothing we thought to have undergone,

The feeling of heartbreak, we would not enjoy.

Contaminated water sat inert,

The water receded within the days,

The house was deserted like the desert,

The memories were left with our old ways.

For the next few months we remained displaced,

But we learned the things we take for granted,

We were strong during the struggles we faced,

Home – where our hearts are forever implanted.

Yet we learned that home is where the heart is,

So if we have family, we have bliss.
