Fortress of Sorrow

A caged animal

Trapped in this box

There is not enough keys

For all of these locks

Contained in my emotion

Falling slowly into the depths

Icicles sting my lungs

With each painful breath

It is my fault

I am my own jailor

These chains are a fortress

I’m swathed in my failure

No one can release me

When I choose to stay

Entombed forever

Comforted by decay
