Friday Night Football: Come Alive

The cool air of a fall Friday night

The field lit up is oh so bright

Our team runs out, the crowd goes wild

Run down the field, the man made aisle

The cheers of spectators fill the air

The sound of anticipation everywhere

But they don't hear, a single word

They will succeed, not be deterred

The nerves of our heros building up

The volcano within us bound to erupt

Against our competitors, face to face

We snap the ball, our hearts now race

The prized possession leaves our hand

The eyes that follow of every fan

We catch the ball, the students roar

And running now, we plan to score

The eyes that refuse to leave the field

The struggle we face as we aim to shield

Past the fifty, the forty, all the way down

Our goal gets closer, the sound of the crowd

The people, the strangers grasp on to each other

The goal now in reach is not too much farther

Feet trampling loudly, not too far behind

Our player proceeding, just crossing the line

The tears left glittering on awestruck faces

The handshakes and unplanned, yet friendly embraces

Our team walks out, a single file

Rivals clap hands, one side with a smile

The once occupied seats that now sit empty

The air becomes still and darkness is entering

Lights dim again, a deadened vibe

Until next week, when we'll come alive
