The Funeral

I lean over your body for one last look,

Oblivious to the pain that your knife took.

This day is too cold for the month of May.

Your body leaves, but your presence will stay.

This betrayel cuts deeper than any knife.

I couldn't see that you would take your life.

Were you really that angry with God?

Or were you just beaten, broken, downtrod?

Did you forget about me being your friend,

Or was it that everything just needed to end?

Did you cry when you did it, or brave the pain?

Was your scream drowned out by the thunder, the rain?

Your mother is weeping, your dad grabs her knee.

Neither will come close, they don't dare look at me.

For I wear the ring you gifted, before you ended your life,

And I cry because I know I will never be your wife.
