The Future is Not Ours

There is no telling what shall lie ahead,

The future is hardly meant to be known.

No one can guess what is best left unsaid,

And who can assume how the dice are thrown?

Actions more than words change the course of things

Yet wholesome sayings can make someone’s day,

Bringing growth and their choices affecting.

Around the bend the unknowns always lay,

Keeping their time and their plans away, safe.

Those who try to understand what they shan’t

Lay upon themselves a good chance to chafe.

Be glad for what you have, rather than can’t.

For the future is not ours to behold,

But for others to enjoy after we’re old.
