The girl with the mask

I know someone

Someone close to me

Who wears a mask

That no one else can see

It smiles at all

Happy,joyful

But underneath is a crying face

It screams and shouts

At deaf ears

No one hears her

As she cries and fears

Afraid of feeling weak

Afraid she can’t protect

The ones who make her truly smile

I wear a mask no one else can see

At least I used too

Before I realized

That I can show my tears

And still hold my head high

I used to hide

I used to cry

Not anymore

Never again will I

Be one with a mask
