The Girl in the Mirror

I look in the mirror and see the girl who is me.

I see her eyes, her mouth, and her almost perfect nose.

My eyes examine each flawed feature,

they overlook her beautiful eyelashes,

they overlook her full lips,

they overlook her brown eyes,

they overlook her facial structure.

Instead they pick away at the acne scars on her face bringing back memories,

they pick away at her eyebrows,

they pick away at her chubby cheeks

Causing them to bleed with shame and guilt.

I look away and turn back into the mirror and see the same girl.

This time her features are not the ones doing the talking.

Her soul screams at me through her eyes,

drowning out the voices around me.

I try to block them out but they

are getting louder and louder,

causing my heart to beat faster and faster,

until the screams escape my mouth...
