We are waiting for the day
That God will say
That this life was a mere play
And we were auditioning
And all the trials and tribulations that we faced
Was apart of our conditioning
And every death that we witnessed
Will be removed from existence
And every enemy will be nothing more than a mere acquaintance
For this day...God we are waiting

We are waiting for the time
That God will allow life to rewind
And all mistakes made could be corrected
So we won't live a life
Imperfectly searching for perfection

We are waiting for the night
That God would gently shake us
To wake us
From a dream where it seems
As if life thrives off the complications
Of power, sin and temptations
For these moments...God we are waiting

We are waiting for the chance
That God will forgive us
And uplift us
From the ancestral sins that have buried us
Involuntarily
In a pit far from equality
And serenity
Cleansing us
Before we slipped away
Into the devil's world of manipulation
For these chances...God we are waiting

We are waiting for the rights
For the color of our skin
To not hinder our opportunities
For no race is free of life's impurities
That dwell within the past of our ancestors insecurities
And for equality we are fighting and debating
For these rights..God we are waiting

We are waiting for the promises
Of our 40 acres and a mule
Cause for far too long we have been America's tool
Rebuilding a land where we are not welcomed but our labor is
So God forbid
That our sweat and tears go unseen
Thru the shadows of white supremacy
Acting as if they have forgotten that we are the original
Black Gods and Goddesses
Yet in their eyes there is no white and black equating
For these promises...God we are waiting

We are waiting for the satisfaction
That all of our ancestors actions weren't done in vain
Or that the Trayvon Martins and Martin Luthers didn't die
At the hands of a lost generation
Or that we will be eternally facing racial deterioration
Or that statistically we will never be historically relevant
Because the state of our present is in question
Modern day genocide is taking place in our race
But where was it originated
For these satisfactions...God we are waiting

We are waiting for change
To be seen and treated based on the content of character
And not the color or origin of our skin
Because that
As a people...we have proven we are more than
We are engineers and writers...teachers and doctors
We are nurses and police...preachers and activists
We are students and counselors...mothers and fathers
We are the past...the present and the future
We are believers patiently praying and seeking answers
To questions within a society built to diminish everything we are creating
For these changes...God...we African Americans are waiting.
