Good Bye?

Location

Mother

will you come back today?

will those men who call us immigrants take you away?

I do not belong here

Or so they say

We steal their jobs and don't pay taxes

Lies

TV commercials and newspaper articles ingnoring our cries

We just want a new life. No poverty or hunger.

Can't they see it?

The Dream Act, Amnesty, a Green Card

If they paid attention they would see

There is no difference between them and me

We just want to be equal

To not fear if we might not see our loved ones the next day

To not tremble and cry as they are taken away

I just want to say good bye to my mother with certainty

That she will soon return to me

So I will not have to question whether good bye

is indeed our destiny.
