Guilt

It roars in your ears

Pounding in your heart

Feeling miserable

A cloud over your head

Just wanting it to leave

Wanting to fix things

But you know you can't

There was nothing

That you could do

And the question

Of maybe there was

Aches in your core

Because if you

Really could've

Helped in a way

It hurts to know

That in the end

You didn't do it

And it is utterly

Maddening

And it drives you

To a painful knowing

An achy realization

The somber feeling

Of having murdered hope

And it forces you to cry

To weep and sob

Your regretful apology

And a plea to forgive

To have mercy

When you just know

There's anything but.
