Gurgle

Location

It’s always too cold at first

Then too hot

Making up your mind is hard

The air is cold

Soon the water’s right

But not for too long

Gurgle. Gurgle. Gurgle-gurgle-gurgle.

The water doesn’t really stick

It slides away

Away from the cares and fears of the day

Covering a moment, taking away

Everything not wanted here

Away, away down the drain

Gurgle. Gurgle. Gurgle-gurgle-gurgle.

The mellow gurgle of the drain

The slap slap slap as the water

Falls all at once because

Its stream was interrupted to catch

The cold and the racing thoughts

And carry them all away

Gurgle. Gurgle. Gurgle-gurgle-gurgle.

Back forth back and forth

Burning to freezing and back again

Making up your mind is hard

A little tune that can’t be heard

Idle thoughts don’t fit

With the music of the water flowing

Gurgle. Gurgle. Gurgle-gurgle-gurgle.

Soprano, fizzing gurgle as

The water streams down soaking

Sopping hair and down down down

Slap slap slap to the white floor

Then swirling down to the drain

Bubbles popping and swirling along

Gurgle. Gurgle. Gurgle-gurgle-gurgle.

Soothing and slippery calm

Floating along in the small size

Of a bubble merrily making its way

And dragging behind itself all

That wasn’t pure and clean before

To leave behind peace and warmth

Gurgle. Gurgle. Gurgle-gurgle-gurgle.

The water ends the drain a moment later

The mirrors and window covered in fog

Ice blue evening and pale gold light

Not rosy like in fall but winter white gold

The kind that says to sit in a blanket indoors

With a hot liquid hug and a well worn book

Gurgle. Gurgle. Gurgle-gurgle-gurgle.
