The Happy Drifter

I don't own a lot of things

all i have are these set of strings

i played my way through the southern streams

where the hippies gather soaking up peaceful greens

and there she was skipping rocks with a joint in her hand

she slept in that tent by the tree

she was a drifter and she wasnt sticking around for long

beautiful southern gypsy girl

take me far away

beautiful southern gypsy girl

i hear the oceans wonderful this time of day

there was a laughing and a singing and a whole lot of drinking

rocking by the camp fire

there was a hoping and a smoking

getting high off of someting

making love to the setting sun

we would talk about the 60's never think about the 50's

wonderin where the 70's gone

why did Lennon have to die

we all would wonder why

while we sat there craving marshmallow pies

i was spinning through a maze of blue

with a guy named Cash and a Boy Named Sue

i was playing SRV's guitar

named Lenny

he spit out a riff like a shooting star

it was so Heavy

I was far gone from my comfort zone

but here in this trippy bliss i felt right at home

beautiful southern gyspy girl

take me far away

beautiful southern gypsy girl

i hear the oceans wonderful this time of day

it was the greatest three months that i ever had

but now its time to go and thats too bad

my thinking's gotten brighter

and i'll never be much higher off of life than i already am
