Hard of Hearing

I am not deaf
I do know some sign
If my hearing ever failed
I'd learn to get by

I love music
I love to rhyme
I cannot keep a beat
But I know I can keep time.

I had a hearing aid
to help with school
It died when I went swimming
I was secretly glad, because now I could look cool.

Then I started to sing
People said I was good
I can't hear all the pitches
I don't sing as well as I could

I do my best
I'm a little ashamed
The Hard of Hearing girl.
Who's constantly blamed.

Flat. Sharp. Off Pitch. Off Key
Little mistakes
Little mess ups
That affect everything.
Except the one part
That wants me to sing
