"have you ever loved a rose..."

have you ever loved a rose,

so much so that you never wanted it to wilt?

you feed her, giver her a home

in hopes that one day she will never leave.

with your hospitality she grows beautifully,

petals opening up, not a single one falters;

and everything seems so healthy.

Everything Always seems So Healthy.

then the color starts to fade

spreading from one petal, to the next.

until all of them have lightened,

and you say it’s still okay, because, you really think it is

and you try to fix it.

but then the first petal falls,

and you try to ignore it

Petal after petal, tumbling delicately off the rose

and you feel powerless, helpless, impotent.

because you know you can’t fix it

and you know it’s not okay,

but nevertheless you try to love it anyway

and as the last bit of hope spirals off of your love

you realize your rose was just a flower

that finally wilted away,

with its unhealthy colors revealed.

rotting roots and a drooping stem,

a Rosy Relationship turns into an Abusive Trend
