Have You Ever Stopped To Ponder

Location

Have You Ever Stopped to Ponder?

Have you ever stopped to ponder

Have you ever stopped to ponder

The girl sitting next to you in class

The girl sitting next to you in class

The one with the unassuming brown hair

The one with the glistening green eyes

The one with too many books

The one entranced by her novel

The one who seems too distracted

The one who seems passionate

The one who probably doesn’t want to talk to you

The one who yearns to know you

Who probably has nothing to worry about

Who strives for perfection

Who probably has bland taste

Who is misunderstood

Who probably will return home to her loving family

Who will return home to the disfunction

Who probably will smile as she sits and laughs

Who probably will weep as she sits alone

Who probably feels perfectly comfortable

Who longs to be accepted

Wherever she goes

As her tenacity grows,

She creates a world for herself

A world of music and the Neoclassical and warmth and delight and self-assurance

She reaps the advantages of the fact

That this world is only splendid if she makes it

And slowly, she begins to overcome

Have you ever stopped to wonder about

Have you ever stopped to wonder about

The girl waiting next to you on the platform

The girl waiting next to you on the platform

The one with the headphones

The one who lets Rachmaninoff transport her from this world

The one who dresses foreignly

The one who wishes it was 1910

The one reading in a strange language

The one who dares to love Arabic in a racist country

The one who seems completely at ease

The one who has worked so hard to get here

Who probably will exit the station

Who will step out into the tender morning

Who probably will stroll down the street

Who will let the city wash over her

Who will stop for coffee on her way to work

Who will be enamored anew with the place she left her home for

Who will carry out her day

Who will finally be able to live

Without a complication
