Heartbeats

Location

Close your eyes.

Bom bom. Bom bom. Bom bom.

Can you hear it?

That’s the sound of my heart beating.

Bom bom. Bom bom. Bom bom.

Can you hear that?

That’s the sound of your heart beating.

The heart beats ninety seven times a minute,

Which is five thousand eight hundred and twenty times an hour,

One hundred thirty nine thousand six hundred eighty times a day,

Nine hundred seventy seven thousand seven hundred sixty times a week,

Three million nine hundred eleven thousand and forty times a month,

Which is forty six million nine hundred thirty two thousand four hundred eighty times a year.

Bom bom. Bom bom. Bom bom.

Can you hear it?

That’s the sound of my heart beating.

Bom bom. Bom bom. Bom bom.

Can you hear that?

That’s the sound of your heart beating.

What I don’t understand is

If there are so many heartbeats;

Heartbeats to laugh,

Heartbeats to love,

Heartbeats to live,

Then.

Why.

Do.

We.

Waste.

Them?

Bom bom. Bom bom. Bom bom.

Can you hear it?

That’s the sound of my heart beating.

Bom bom. Bom bom. Bom bom.

Can you hear that?

That’s the sound of your heart beating.

By now you’ve been listening to this for

Ninety seven heartbeats.

Did you know that that is

One hundred and seven deaths a minute?

There are more deaths than heartbeats in a single minute.

That’s the kind of world we’re living in.

Bom bom. Bom bom. Bom bom.

Can you hear it?

That’s the sound of my heart beating.

Bom bom. Bom bom. Bom bom.

Can you hear that?

That’s the sound of your heart beating.

If I wanted to

I could stand here for

One hundred thirty nine thousand six hundred eighty heartbeats,

And flood you with information and statistics so horrible

It sometimes makes your heartbeat stop;

For just a second.

Bom bom. Bom bom. Bom bom.

Can you hear it?

That’s the sound of my heart beating?

Bom bom.                    Bom bom.

Did you hear that?

That’s the sound of your heart,

Stopping for just one second.

If your heart beat at that rate,

It would beat ninety six times a minute,

Two thousand three hundred and four times a day,

Sixteen thousand one hundred twenty eight times a week,

Sixty four thousand five hundred twelve times a month,

Which is seven hundred seventy four thousand one hundred and forty four times a year.

That is forty six million one hundred fifty eight thousand three hundred and thirty six times less

Than it was before I opened my mouth.

That is forty six million one hundred fifty eight thousand three hundred and thirty six heartbeats wasted.

That is forty six million one hundred fifty eight thousand three hundred and thirty six heartbeats

Less to laugh,

Less to love,

Less to live.

Bom bom. Bom bom. Bom bom.

Can you hear it?

That’s the sound of my heart beating.

Bom bom. Bom bom. Bom bom.

Can you hear that?

That’s the sound of your heart beating.

You have now been listening to this for

Two hundred and forty three heartbeats.

Hopefully those heartbeats weren’t wasted;

Hopefully you’ll never waste anymore.

Bom bom. Bom bom. Bom bom.

Can you hear it?

That’s the sound of my heart beating.

Bom bom. Bom bom. Bom bom.

Can you hear that?

That’s the sound of your heart beating.

Open your eyes.

Listen to your heartbeat.

Are you satisfied with what you hear?
