Hero in a Hurricane

He has to stay behind

Here, in this blur of water and wind

Unsure when he'll see his family.

The wind, the rain

This torturous hurricane

Will it ever cease to end?

What can he do

With patients who can't move,

Immobilized by fear or disease?

His health is fine,

But he's one of few

Who can handle the stress and the pleas.

Void of light,

Void of water,

Hospital is only shelter.

The patients are okay,

So all he can do is pray,

Pray that his family is safe and sound,

Away from the danger,

Away from this place to which he is bound.

To victims of that hurricane,

All they remember is novocaine,

But I remember the brave,

My Dad, the hero,

The one who could save.
