Hero In You

To find a true hero may seem a challenging quest,

But in truth, it is easier than you might have guessed.

Heroes come in countless forms you see,

There is one living in you and one living in me.

The heroes we’re used to wear capes of bright red,

But a real hero wears a cloak of humility instead.

Some heroes in fact, may seem so plain,

That others walk past them, not knowing their name,

While deep in that heart stirs a soft little plea,

To go forth and help someone deeply in need.

“But I’m not a hero, I’ve done nothing great,”

You may say with a sigh as you turn on your way.

But directly behind you, you hear a small sound,

That makes you stop in your tracks and turn right around.

There sits a young girl with tears in her eyes,

Watching ever so sadly as strangers walk by.

On a whim you walk towards her, with not a clue what to say,

All you know is that she needs someone to wipe her sad tears away.

As you sink down next to her, a smile lights her face,

The complete perfect picture of forgiveness and grace.

It is then that you realize without any doubt,

What being a hero is really about.

You need not search a day more, you know this is true,

The hero you were looking for was always in you.
