Hope in Despair

Where are you going Syrian woman?
Panicked in a flee
Danger and destruction await
You’re yearning to be free

What’s wrong with you, young child?
Staying all alone
On a dirty street, you shiver in sleep
You’re searching for a home

What’s the matter solemn man?
Tears streaked down your cheeks
You’ve lost the one that you love
It’s comfort that you seek

What has happened to our peace?
With gunfire raging in the streets
Terror seeping in our dreams
A world riddled with deceit

I see an opportunity
For peace and joy and hope
Accept each other’s differences
And help this wounded world cope
