Hope Within Hopelessness

Sat, 09/06/2014 - 15:35 -- 221tea
Never before in all my days
have I seen a hole so deep.
A void so black a light it lacked
and caused the strong to weep.

As the bravest fell into the dark
forgotten once they’d gone,
the strong they cried, the wisest died,
the biggest lost their brawn.

It did not call, it did not cry
for me, but closer I came still.
A silent noise from trembling voice
vibration couldn’t fill.

Peering down into the dark
the gaping maw stood wide.
A frigid mist from great abyss.
Naught a single soul inside.

I do not recall the great descent
or the time it took to fall.
I struck the ground with thunderous sound
Confined by concrete walls.

Time passes slowly in the dark
I’ve learnt this to be true.
No light to shine this hell of mine.
No courage to break through.

But remembering the few that fell before,
how they heard the silent call,
there’s comfort to know weakness is not woe
because even the bravest fall.

At this thought the clouds they broke
and down into these confines
the stars appeared to ease my fear.
My, look at how they shine.

At times it’s far too dark to see
in this space confined.
But in times of doubt the stars come out.
My, just look at how they shine.
