Hungry for Bagels

For morning’s breakfast I prepare a snack

Of half a poppy covered bagel, so

I can survive the day. And then, I lack

The most important part: cream cheese, oh no!

I search the fridge without delay for my

Cream cheese. It’s not behind the pickles or

The pears! It’s not atop my apple pie!

This sucks! My luck is horrid, not just poor!

My eyes look past the capers for a spread;

A back-up can’t be found! No meat, no cheese

Can swap for it. Should I eat rice instead?

The cream cheese gods will not return my pleas!

But, there’s no time to find something better,

So I give up! And I apply butter.
