I

What is your Anthem?

How do you convey it?

To scream and shout at the top of you lungs

Or to quietly sing it to yourself

To rebel against labels

Or to embrace the perks of it

When the lines blur,

How do you define an American?

Caucasian, African American, Native American, Asian, Middle Eastern

Christian, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, Jewish, Atheist

Heterosexual, Homosexual, Bisexual, Transexual, Asexual

Rich, Middle Class, Poor, Homeless

Confident or Timid

Young or Old

Skinny or Fat

Tall or Short

Male or Female

Alive or Dead

Why is there a more favorable side?

Even though there are so many ways to separate us,

Sometimes we forget

We have one thing in common

We are the best at being imperfect

Filled with flaws,

We conceptualize the idea of being human

Most of us aren't as

Rich as Bill Gate,

Eloquent as Shakespeare,

Artistic as Leonardo de Vinci,

Loyal as Nelson Mandela

Brilliant as Albert Einstein

Inventive as Benjamin Franklin,

Musically gifted as  Mozart,

Charismatic as Franklin D. Roosevelt,

And peaceful as Martin Luther King Jr

But we are the best at being ourselves

Afterall, we can only shine the brightest when we stop looking and start doing
