I am Me

(I am who I am as a result of who I am not)

I am not the girl my parents thought I would be

I do not always have my mother’s kindness or my father’s humility

I am not their dreams of obedience and purity

Instead,

I am me.

I am not the fair-skinned girls I see on the street

I am not like the people that I constantly meet

My existence has never been tidy or neat

To put it simply,

I am me

I am not the clothes I wear or the language I speak

I am not defined by any single word that you seek

I grow more and more different with each passing week

Precisely,

I am me

I am not parallel to those that surround me

I am not in the conversations that occur about me

My thoughts are demons that unceasingly crowd me

In one word,

I am me

I am not like the girl I see in my dreams

My vices seem isolate from most other teens

My love is an entity not all that it seems

Concisely,

I am me

I am not strange or abstract,

I am real, I am me

Specifically, independently, namely

Me
