I Stand and Face America
Location
I stand with my hand covering my heart,
Face the flag and recite the pledge.
I stand for our President, legislators and judges,
Facing the daunting task of fixing our country.
I stand for the government we created,
Facing decisions that have no right answer.
I stand for the bald eagle,
Facing a world being torn apart by anger.
I stand for Lady Liberty,
Facing a future of uncertainty.
I stand for the men and women serving our country overseas,
Facing the horrors of war and tragedy.
I stand for the men and women serving our country at home,
Facing unsupportive citizens and hatred.
I stand for the police officers who are just doing their job,
Facing threats and hatred for the actions of others.
I stand for the families of police officers,
Facing the call that their loved one isn’t coming home.
I stand for those being being persecuted for the color of their skin,
Facing racism everyday.
I stand for those being accused of the persecution,
Facing unjust treatment just the same.
I stand for the religious,
Facing a world that mocks their beliefs.
I stand for those who aren’t religious,
Facing extreme religious groups turning to violence.
I stand for the small towns,
Facing epidemics of suicide.
I stand for the large cities,
Facing overpopulation and pollution problems.
I stand for the poverty stricken,
Facing critique, bankruptcy and even death.
I stand for the rich,
Facing persecution for their wealth.
I stand for those just trying to make it through another day,
Facing debt and a failing economy that isn’t their fault.
I stand for the American dream,
Facing extinction due to modern times.
I stand alone as I recite the pledge,
Face the classroom full of kids sitting, staring.
