I too am America

Location

I too am America

Even though my ancestors are from Africa

Even though I have a southern drawl

Even though I don’t shop often at the mall

I take my fate in my own hands

And lend my hands to bring disasters to an end

I am sometimes loud and misunderstood

You can see my flaws if you look under my hood

I can be kind and compassionate if I please

But also hateful and mean to take what I need

I am naïve and young with a wide horizon in front of me

Strong and powerful for everyone to see

I am all these things simply because

I too am America
