Identity? What is it really?

I live with no sense of identity
Black-
Female-
Gay-

They all represent me
But being stuck in a mundane place
Gasping for air and space
Left with this double-sided face

In a sea of all white I can’t fade in
Where the people who share my color refuse to call me kin
Where I can’t even tell my father who I love
Without fear of rejection

I’m prideful.
But not of myself
I’m spiteful
Of nearly everyone else

Disconnected from family, friends
Called out on differences of sexuality and skin
I can only recall where it begins
But God forbid I know when it ends

I live with a sense of identity
Strong-
Ambitious-
Brave-

Words that should represent me
But they’re lost with what I am outside
I’m screaming and running with no place to hide
I’m forced to break out to feel alive
