Innocence Into Reality

We are born, we will die,

We will try to live life to the fullest,

We will try to hold onto our childhood, but it will slip away

With out a doubt.

Childhoods will die without warning, without cause

The loss of a childhood will change a person

A change so strong, so incredible, a person may never be the same again.

Growing up is a part of life, a part we need to accept.

Sometimes people grow up slow,

Step by step.

A first kiss, a first home run, a first for everything.

Sometimes those firsts never come

Sometimes growing up never ends

It abruptly stops

Whether it’s your own doing or someone else’s

Once you lose that innocence you don’t get it back.

It’s gone.

Some of us are still innocent.

Some of us lost it a long time ago,

But all of us will lose it, and that day will stay with you forever.

After I lost mine I didn’t sit out my childhood,

I didn’t ask the coach of life to be benched.

I moved on, slowly but surely,

I have come to this simplicity from afar.

Sometimes I wonder how my life would be if IT never happened.

Would I still be innocent?

Would I still be able to move through life slowly, without calloused feet?

Could I experience my firsts through the eyes of a child, not an adult?

If your wondering if you still have it,

You do.

When childhood is lost, you know.

For fair warning it will hurt.

Tears will be shed, and anyone who could possibly remedy the situation won’t be around.  You have to do it on your own.

Some cultures send kids into the woods at a certain age,

The child cannot come back until they have killed a prized animal.

This ritual makes the child a man.

In our culture making someone a man or a woman is taking away something that can never be given back.

Whether is be the life of a friend or an adult, or watching someone lose his own.

That is when innocence is lost.

Gone forever.
