Inside or Out?

What do you see when you look at someone?

Do you only see what’s on the outside, the skin and bone?

Or do you see what is on the inside, their heart, their mind, their soul?

If you take the time to look inside, you will see how life has taken it’s toll.

On the outside you may see a handsome gentleman,

While the inside hides a grinning demon.

The surface may show a strong and able teen, preparing for the future ahead of him.

But the soul reveals an old and broken man, hunched over in weariness and whose life is beginning to dim.

The skin may be of a happy girl, enjoying life and always smiling.

But the heart is of a tortured soul, slowly dying.

You may see a woman, free and loose,

But is already swinging from a noose.

A quiet, withdrawn man

May have a beautiful soul within.

A vicious creature, ready to lash out at the world around him,

Can have the soul of a gentle giant buried deep inside him..

The outside is not always the truth, it is only what they want you to see.

The inside is what they try to hide, what life has made them be.

So the question is, which will you choose?

Will you shy away from the truth, or will you confront the abuse?

Will you wrap your soul with so many lies that it will never be laid bare?

Or will you tell your loved ones the truth, and realize that they truly care?

No, the real question is, do you even know which one you are?
