Intentions

Mon, 01/16/2017 - 19:20 -- Awcey

We broke a lot of things last year

 Just to build something new;

 Something that grew my fear

 It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

 We broke a friendship last year

 Just to rekindle an old one;

 An old one that became so dear

 It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

 We broke a boundary last year

 Just to put it back in place;

 A place that I’m nowhere near

 It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

 We broke another friendship last year

 Just to strengthen a new one;

 A new one that leaves a smear

 It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

 We broke a childhood last year

 Just to find a new life;

 A life going toward my career

 It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

 We broke a leadership last year

 Just to replace it with trash;

 Trash that looks at me with a sneer

 It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

 We broke a house last year

 Just to make it ours;

 An empty house, it’s clear

 It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

 We broke a closet door last year

 Just to hold it back up;

 A door that says I’m not queer

 It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

 We broke a paintbrush last year

 Just to make it into a sculpture;

 A sculpture to make them cheer

 It wasn’t supposed to be like this.

 I broke myself last year

 Just to say it wasn’t my fault,

 And in case it wasn’t already clear?

 It wasn’t supposed to be like this.
