A Journey of Growth

So young.

And joy lights up their faces

As the simplest pleasure transforms

Into a wonderful miracle

Engineered just for them

By fairies, or angels, or God.

Growing up,

And each day brings new experiences.

Emotions never felt before, novel thoughts

That blossom into fruition, or wither under the pressure

Of life and its constant struggles.

As years pass by their faces reflect wisdom

Gained through the experience of sorrow, pain, and laughter.

Older still, and gradual changes from youthful glow to weathered lines

Each earned while overcoming the barriers of life.

Tripping sometimes, but always to arise and continue their journey.

Nearing the journey’s end, and faces like well-worn leather show every wrinkled line and crease.

They’ve had their share of good days and bad days too, and everything in between .

They have made their mark on the world, and in return it has taken the smooth beauty of youth,

Leaving in its place a map of lines, showing the wandering paths that their lives have taken.

They have made their peace with the world around them, ready to leave it, to see what is next.

And with sad but peaceful smiles, full of memories, they watch the children play.
