Just Another Marble

Just another Marble

To light yet to dark huh?

Far more than delicate like us but not strong enough…

These are the lyrics to my life’s song

This is the box that was bestowed upon, me

Rather the lack there of

Because I wasn’t given a box, a circle, a group, an automatic chance

Instead I was given an eternity

Of endless questioning and wondering of who I am

Of exactly who is me?

I know I’ll never be that of my maternal

Never with the ease and naivety

For life is all but fair to me

Fair is what someone like me will never be

Yet I’ll also never be that of my paternal

Born without the assumed struggle with out the inherited pain

For in most minds this is reserved for those of the fellow ebony

And though many things ebony is not me

So where is my place, my home, my destiny?

Who gives me my identity?

The identity my parent’s genes should have bestowed upon me

Because how can multi- be a defined mass

How can poly- ethnicity live without the mental questions being asked

Who am I? Who is my we?

We are a dream, we are a fantasy

We are different, a mix, a variety

We are not porcelain pure and living neat

We are not granite dark and too strong fighting to not be beat

My people, my box is the median

We are the group where each meets

Marble never mixed the same

We are the fundamental example that “beautiful imperfection”

Will always and should remain

We are the twine that twist and turns others minds

We are the glue that will forever bind

Connecting each race to hopefully revive

Revive the love between each side

Bind the thoughts to create better time

We are the mix, the variety, a refreshing change

We are the greatness from “pure” genetics rearranged

So with this I may not live by your accord

For I am glad to be marble living in a porcelain and granite world
