Lady Liberty: A Shakespearean Sonnet

She stands so tall with her golden torch high

As she paves the way for dreams to take flight

With a glimpse of you most let out a cry

They know their potential has reached full height

But is this truly what She has promised,

A life of equality and freedom?

Questions unanswered, she is dishonest

The oppression that you have escaped from

Remains the same from where you departed.

But you must hold on to the thought of her

For change is bound to come, so get started.

It begins with you and me, I concur.

For she’s not perfect, like metal she rusts

As you are gazing at her copper bust

This poem is about:
My country
