Land of the Free
Land of the free, with liberty and justice for all.
Thousands of lifeless voices swell together.
All if you are white,
All if you are rich,
All if you are “normal.”
But inside they cry,
Their pain irrelevant until it is too late.
When their last cries echo,
For just a moment,
Heads turn.
Eyes are opened and tears pour,
Hearts are opened and anger released.
A flicker of compassion,
A moment of caring,
Quickly forgotten.
This cannot be freedom,
This is not liberty or justice.
We must listen.
We cannot ignore their cry while they exist.
Watch as they walk by,
Talk to them while you can.
Reach out
Don’t let them fade before they have the chance to shine.
