Land of Ice

Thu, 01/09/2014 - 23:43 -- Kaelyn

Outside is dark, dreary
Without a single beam of white moonlight

The wind has stilled, mostly
But heavy cold blankets the quiet town

It is dark white, freezing
A land of ice but for some falling flakes

The silence and stillness, almost overbearing
Oppressive in a cold, frozen fury

Quiet, peaceful, full of tension
Not a single soul dares to venture out

But inside, the fires warm-up
Cold hands and brighten up the reigning night

Frequent shouts, joyful laughter
   Following stories shatter the stillness

Families, content and warm
   Tenderly pass this night together.
