Layered

"I will always love you," she said to the man she wed

Her light beamed through his barriers

Her eyes, speckled within

Her skin, soft and layered

"I will always love you," as she slipped into the other man's bed

Her light scratched her caked, muddy interior

Her eyes, unmoving and harsh

Her skin, itchy and layered

"I will always love you," as she pulled at the thread

Her light, faded and remote

Her eyes, vacant and lost

Her skin, delicate and layered

"I will always love you," she chimes to the child that she bred

Her light, transparently clear

Her eyes, glowing with pride

Her skin, supple and layered

"I will always love you," she said

Falling, echoing into the chasms of earth

Layers upon layers
