Leaving the Port

Leaving the Port

Ships are carried by the waves

in and out of port

I stand in the sand

watching them,

just watching

as glide into the melting horizon

I want to sail.

My thoughts become actions

as I piece together my floating dream

it's everything I imagined

if not more.

beautifully crafted

Perfect.

at least it was to me.

I want to take it sailing

The way the sun reflected in the salty ocean air,

it made me feel ready.

so I left the port with my beautiful ship,

I turn back and look

at that familiar spot in the sand.

I love to sail.

The skies get dark

the horizon gets blurred

I can no longer see the shore

my boat wasn't ready for the storm,

I wasn't ready for the storm

I don't want to sail anymore.

I stand on the shore and watch

the ship, my ship

I watch it sail away.

I hear the laughter, I see the smiles.

I can hardly see the bow now

it fades into the distance.

standing in my spot on the sand, I am left alone.

I want to sail.
