Let the caged bird free

Let The Caged Bird Free

Assata Toney

As the free birds fly by

The caged bird watches with envy

She opens her wings

But feels the cold bars instead of the wind

She tries to push to cage open

But it just wouldn't budge

She tries to sing

But she is tired of singing of freedom

She wants to be free

She calls for the free birds

They ignore her

She calls again

And they ignore her

She begins to give up

She cries out sweet songs

A free brid listens

He gets closer

He weeps for her

And decides to help

When a free bird swoops down

He opens the cage

The bird dashes out

She is a free bird

No more having to cry out

No more sadness

Just freedom

She is finally free
