Life of a Shelter Pet

Location

Will they come by again,
Those humans with the brand new leash?
I’ve been in this shelter for a while now,
I wonder if I’ll ever leave…

Humans pass by day after day,
and head to the smaller cages.
They visit the Chihuahuas, Yorkies, and Pugs,
and ignore us dogs with older ages.

All I want is my own bed,
a toy, a bowl, a human to call my own.
Maybe one day I’ll leave this shelter,
and have my very own loving home.

Until that day I’ll stay in this shelter,
scared, sad, and so alone.
One day those humans will adopt me
and I’ll finally have a home.
