Living for Another

Location

Open your eyes sunshine,

roll out of bed.

It’s time to start a new day.

A fresh start.

Brush your teeth

so that they will be able to stand near you.

Cover up your face, your imperfections, your flaws

so that their eyes will be pleasured.

Put on the latest fashions and fads

so that they will think highly of you.

Drive your car to class

so that they will be jealous of you.

Study hard and ace every test

so that they will be impressed with you.

Smile.  Laugh.  Chat.

So that they will never be scared of you.

Run for forty minutes.  No more, no less.

So that they will never catch you.

Skip dinner.

So that they will fantasize about your figure.

Now, look in the mirror.

Will they like what they see?

Wash away this day.

Tomorrow will be different.

I will escape from this weight of living.

I will not be a victim of normalcy.

Of complacency.

I will break free of their heavy expectations!

Open your eyes sunshine.

Roll out of bed.

It’s time to start a new day.
