Locked Away

Location

Hidden in the shadows

Far from where it can taint

Your perfect peace and joy

With the truth that is reality

You do not want to see it

Because you fear that what you have

Is only an illusion

Something that will disappear

The moment that you realize

That it is all a fake

Because everything is false but the truth

And yet you refuse to accept that

Cease to communicate with those who know

Simply to avoid the painful existence.

Chains tear at the flesh

As it struggles to break free

Yet you tighten the binds and turn your back

Shielding your mind from the cries

Nothing can pierce this desperate obstruction

But you still build upon it

Burying the screams in layer upon layer

Of beliefs and shallow reassurances

It cannot escape, cannot force you to face

What you will one day encounter

It is inevitable, this forgiveness, this challenge

There is no passage to permit you to flee

The poison seeps through the masks

Despite your precautions

Haunting your dreams

Slivering in the shadows

Laughing as you shrug away the sights

In the corners of your eyes

Blaming them on the sun, the moon

The spirits of the past

It is there, hidden in the shadows

Never to leave you be

Never to dissolve in the searing sun

Only to appear on the final day

The dying breaths incapable

Of locking the fear away

Preparing you for the hunger within

Which will consume you as those final rays

Of light fade in the dusk sky

Casting your world into darkness

Ravaged with the taunting shadows

That plagued your mind your entire life

Always there but never seen

Until the time is right

Insanity claims us all at this moment

For, freed from the shackles of life,

We fall to the claws of madness.
