look at her

Look at her
What do you see?
Who do you see?
You see a smiling face
You see the person you know
The person you love
You hear the same voice you know
She says the things you expect her to say
But do you notice?
Do you take the time to notice?
Do you care enough to notice?
She’s not engaged
Her eyes are glassy
Surrounded by dark circles
That can’t be blamed on fatigue
Full nights sleep doesn’t change a thing
Look at her
You see who you want to see
You see who you thought you knew
But you didn’t know her at all did you?
Look at her
But don’t be surprised
When she’s not who you knew.
